These are the final results of the competition. It turns out we missed 3rd place by only 11 points. The top 4 slots were pretty tight this year and UCDFH is already beginning the plans and vehicle architecture for the build of FH3, the 2012 vehicle. Well, UCD got 4th place overall. Pretty much a total surprise and a bummer. We thought we had secured 2nd place, but BYU pulled ahead and won the endurance event and knocked us back significantly. Overall we were one of only 4 teams out of the 24 teams to compete at FH to finish endurance. Once again UCD has proven itself as one of the best teams in the country and we are proud of that. We are continuing to take our feedback from the judges this year in order to form next year's design. This year's tech inspection was ridiculously difficult and next year's team will highly consider their design's in such a way that ensures a smooth tech inspection, which seems unfortunate in terms of design, but has turned out to be highly critical to achieve completion of all dynamic event in a timely manner. New pictures should follow shortly so stay tuned. We are off to Indianapolis and will compete in Autocross events there and plan to push our hybrid system to total failure to understand its full capabilities. This should be quite fun!!
Matt Thus far the results for the Presentation Event are in. We were only able to snag 71/100 points for the business pres. Its a bummer, but an insignificant portion of the points. We did not make it to design finals, but feel like we gave a solid presentation there. We will see those final scores tomorrow after the design finals are held.
As of now only one car of the 33 teams has officially passed through tech inspection and the dynamics events begin tomorrow. We will run through the electrical inspection for the final time early tomorrow morning and then complete the tilt, noise and brake test which will allow for us to run in the acceleration event which begins at 9am and will be open until 12pm. The design presentation will start at 2:30 pm eastern time, and will have as it's presenters, Mario Miranda , Jonathan Kurniawan, Eric Schmidt, Matt Klein, Martin Ward and Justin Werre. They will discuss the powertrain, elctrical and chasis.
At 9:30am this morning the car was rolled into the electrical tech inspection area where the judges verified critical components inside the high voltage enclosure. This event was the full electrical tech inspection.   UC Davis is officially the first team to pass through Mechanical Tech Inspection. Huge relief there, but now we are faced with the Electrical Inspection :( More updates to follow so stay tuned!
We were the first team to do tech inspection for electrical and mechanical components, we have gotten positive feedback and things to fix from the judges.   We are at the track, registered, and ready to take on Electrical Tech Inspection. Electrical Group lead, Justin Werre prepares himself to present the design to the tech inspectors.
We have finally arrived, no major incidents. It appears that BYU and possibly UTA are also staying at the same hotel we are at (Fairfield Inn). We also passed/were passed by MSOE en route to Concord, in New Hampshire.  Truck, trailer, and both cars arrived safely. Time to catch up on sleep. I think I've lost track of the time, as it really isn't day 4. Only 60 or so hours have passed, so really it's still part of Day 3. Regardless, I shall continue this numbering scheme.  Steak n' Shake in Missouri. They need to bring these to California. We have passed through Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and we are now crossing Pennsylvania. Hopefully we'll make it to New Hampshire tonight. 530 miles to go.
